In middle ages, the literature commanded a considerable respect and had its due position in Nepal. The king patronized the poets, authors and learned persons. This tendency is being witnessed in the form of existing manuscripts and different volumes present today in the libraries. The authors contributed to a large extent in the development of Sanskrit literature and its philosophy. The play Bharvananad written by the foams poet Manik is proof to this great tradition. The manuscripts of this very play are available in the State Veer Library as well as in Pashupati research institute of Nepal. This play was created to be staged on the occasion of the marriage ceremony of Raj Kumar Darm Mall by the order of his father the then King of Nepal Jay Sithiti Mall. The author Manik was a courtier of the King Jay Sithiti Mall in fourteenth century. Manik was great grand son of Mahamahopadhyay Gangeshophadhyay, who wrote Tattva Chintamani and was considered to be one of the founder fathers of Nava Nyaya. The son of Manik Hrishikesh wrote the commentary Dhvanyalok, who also become fomous thinker in his time. The play Bharvananad has six acts in background of Tantra. The plot of the play is very popular and entertaining. Hero of this play is Bharvananad, who is Tantrik. Madanavati played a specified and leading role in this play. Indeed Madanavati was a dancer of heavens, who resumed in a reincarnation of Earth as a benign and humble human being. She was extremely beautiful and partly damsel. This play consists the essential ingredients of the contemporary theatre in view of performing arts. As author Mahamahopadhyay Manik was a renowned figure in the dramatic field.
