Abstract

Kuwaiti Society got exposure to drama activities in early thirties of 20th century. At the beginning, drama texts were written by the teachers of traditional madaris; like as Madrasa Mubarakia, Madrasa Ahmadia, Madrasa Sharqia etc. In this initial phase; drama activities aimed at social and cultural reforms more than enjoyment or any other objective.In 1930; it was the first time when a drama was played through stage at the occasion of inaugural function of Madrasa Ahmadia. This drama was written by Sk. Abdul Azeez Al-Rasheed; an eminent reformer and scholar of modern thinking in the recent history of Kuwait.Drama Movement of Kuwait got an extraordinary advancement when the famous artist Hamad Al-Rajeeb came back to Kuwait in 1950 after completion his studies in Cairo, during his stay in Cairo he got admission in a Drama Institute and learned the drama and stage academically.1958 is another milestone in the history of Kuwaiti Drama, in this year, the ministry of labor & social affairs had invited an eminent Egyptian artist Zaki Taleemat to Kuwait for review the Drama Movement of Kuwait and put the suggestions for its advancement. Zaki did his duty with a great enthusiasm by providing the academic and professional input to drama activities. He introduced -first time-some female artists also like as Maryam Al-Ghadhban, Maryam Al-Saleh, Hayat Al-Fahd etc.
