Abstract

Ethyl acetoacetate on reaction with thiourea gave 6-methyl-4-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-thio-pyrimidine (I) which on reaction with chloroacetic acid in water afforded 2,4-dioxo-6-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine (II). Reaction of (II) with 2-amino-5-aralkyl-1,3,4-thiadiazoles resulted in 3-[2′-(methylamino-5′-aralkyl-1′,3′,4′-thiadiazolyl)-6-methyl uracials (III). Compounds (III) were evaluated for their antiviral activity against animal and plant viruses.
