Reaction of resorcinol with ethylacetoacetate (EAA) in presence of concentrated sulphuric acid afforded 7-Hydroxy-4-methyl-chromen-2-one 1 which on reaction with o-phenylene diamine/ethylene diamine in dry pyridine resulted in 5-Methyl[4,5]imidazo/benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2a]quinolin-2-ol 2. When 2 was reacted with α, β unsaturated carbonyl compounds in dioxane and triethylamine 3-(5-Methyl[4,5] imidazo/benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2a] quinolin-2-yl-oxy)-1-phenyl 3-aryl-propan-1-ones 3 were obtained. Compounds 3 were examined for their antimicrobial and antiviral activities.
