Styrene maleic anhydride copolymers (SMACs) are of particular commercial and academic interest. It belongs to a group of vinylic polymer. It follows the complex-radical polymerization of vinyl aromatic Styrene (Donor) and maleic anhydride (Acceptor) Styrene and maleic anhydride copolymerizes in the presence of Benzyol peroxide as an initiator and when it mixed with DMSO it forms a polymer complex. The result shows that polymers were carried out through primary “Complex” mechanism at near-binary copolymerization of [St…….Ma] complex with DMSO it forms a polyelectrolyte complex. The sulphonated Styrene malice anhydride now recently used in pharma industry for the preparation of nasal optic drug. Structure of the resulting polymer complex illustrated by 1HNMR, FTIR 13C NMR spectroscopy.
