An investigation leading to the synthesis of 3,6-dibenzoyl-1,4-disubstituted-1,4-dihydro-1,2,4,5-tetrazines for studying their antiviral activity

Acetophenone on treatment with pyridine in the presence of iodine gave N-acetophenone pyridinium iodide (1) which reacted with several diazonium chlorides in the presence of anhydrous sodium acetate to yield 3, 6-dibenzoyl-1,4-disubstituted-1,4-dihydro-1,2,4,5-tetrazines (2) as the target compounds. The compounds (2) were evaluated for their antiviral activity against two animal viruses viz; Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) and Herpes Simplex Virus type-I, in vitro.
