It is mandatory for clean and transparent administration in a democracy to provide freedom of expression and right to information to its citizen, which is provided as clause 19 (1) (A) in the constitution of India under Fundamental Rights. To meet the growing demands from many quarters after witnessing unprecedented eruption of corruption in almost all the walks of Indian society in general and administration in particular the Government of India finally after long deliberations has bestowed its citizen on 12 October 2005 an act “Right to Information, 2005”. However, there are number of discrepancies in the act, which it appears may not serve the very purpose of its enactment. In this paper few significant shortcomings of the act has been discussed.
