Off-shoots of Indian society in the land of Suvarnadvîpa

Abstract

The word ‘Suvarnadvîpa’ is mentioned in ancient Indian Literature as well as in foreign accounts. The islands lying between Malay Peninsula and New Guinea were called ‘Suvarnadvîpa’. Indians used to go there for purposes of trade. Hindu Colonists introduced their culture and civilisation in all aspects-language literature, religion, art, social and political institutions. Inscriptions and Chinese accounts are valuable source of information. ‘Châturvaròa’ is mentioned in the inscriptions of Indonesia. Brahmins and Kšhatriyas are mentioned in Javanese literature. The presen paper deals with the influences of Indian Culture on Suvarnadvîpa an off-shoot of Indian society.
