The present paper deals with the origin of the shauka tribe of Pithouragh District in the glaiciers of himalayas. Shaukas are prominently found in the valleys of Johar, Darma, Beas and Chaudas and are known by the name of johari, darmia, and chaudasi shauka. Their history goes back to the ancient period of Ramayana and Mahabharata.
