Abstract

The exposition of the term dharma as a moral value is very old and popular view according to the Indian tradition. The Indian concept of dharma tries to study about duty, good, virtue, course of conduct, the social and moral laws which are the ethical and moral problems of Hindu life. The dharmasutras like Manusmrti, yajnavalkya smrti, Bhagavad Gita and the ancient Indian schools like Buddhism, Vaishesikasutra and Purva Mimamsa give an account of Moral standard to dharma. Rta is often considered in the sense of dharma in the moral plane. Therefore the present article deals with the different interpretation of dharma and at the same time it carefully evaluated how far it would be acceptable in the moral plane.
