Abstract

Jawaharlal Nehru and Franklin D.Roosevelt, the two prominent world figures of this century, though had emerged from two different worlds, namely East and West, shared many common ideas and tried to uphold similar values. Both rose above narrow limitations of nationality and geographical regions as far as fundamental values governing human society are concerned. Both of them were witness to forces like fascism and imperialism and colonialism which were trying to destroy the ideals they believed. Nehru and Roosevelt saw the world-wide conflict of ideas and politics in 1930’s and 1940’s and stood for democracy and opposed fascism and totalitarian state. To them, it was antithesis to their faith in democracy, freedom, peace and progress.
