Abstract

Shahjehanpur played a very important role in the freedom struggle of India. Shahjehanpur remained independent for considerable period during the revolt of 1857. Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah was one of the most important leaders of the rebellion. Alongwith Faizabad Maulvi also played a prominent role in the revolt of Lucknow and Shahjehanpur. Whereas comparative role of Maulvi was not less important than anyone else but the knowledge about Maulvi and his role in rebellion is not well reserached. There are also many misconceptions about Maulvi's life and contributions. The knowledge about Maulvi is only available in the writings of contemporary British historians, army officers, the poetic biography of Maulvi and together with in a newspaper "Tilism"published from Lucknow. In this research paper I have tried to throw light on his personality and role in the history of rebellion of 1857.
