Abstract

Genetics of yield determining factors were studied in a 625 half sib bi-parental progenies of blackgram cross (L-207 x L-400) by using NCD-II. The results revealed that both additive (σ2A) and dominance (σ2D) genetic variance were involved in the expression of most of the characters. However, the additive genetic variance were higher in magnitune than dominance genetic variance for branches per plant, clusters per plant, pods per plant, 100 seed weight and grain yield per plant. The degree of dominance revealed overdominance for all the characters except days to maturity and pod length where, partial dominance was recorded. Biparental mating and or diallel selective mating system could be the best breeding method for more tangible advancement in blackgram.
