Abstract

The present study was undertaken to obtain cultivar and area specific rhizobia for pea. Soil samples were collected and analysed for soil characteristics. Six isolates AC-1 to AC-6 for Rhizobium isolated from 3 different varieties grown in soils of Amritsar belt were screened and tested for legume-Rhizobium symbiosis along with a reference culture with three varieties for pea. Variety Arkel interacted best with P-4 for symbiotic parameters and Matar Ageta (MA-6) with AC-1 for leghaemoglobin content, N-content and nitrogenase activity. AC-3 x Arkel, AC-4 x MA-6 and AC-6 x Pu-88 were found to be the best combinations for fresh pod yield of pea.
