Effect oforganic farming on productivity and quality of french bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) var. confender

An experiment was undertaken on french bean var. contender during summer season of 1997 and 1998 in sandy loam soil with nine treatments comprising the combinations of three fertilizers Le. B) -Farm yard manure +Dense organic manure, B₂ -Bio-fertilizer + Dense organic manure, 83 -chemical fertilizers and three pesticides viz., P₁ Neemax. P₂-Garlic extract. P₃-chemical pesticide Endosulfan with three replications. The treatment combination of farm yard manure + dense organic manure and Neemax gave higher yield, higher protein and vitamin C content with prolonged shelf life under ambient storage conditions, than the other treatments. Howewr nitrate content which caused health hazards was low in treatment having bio-fertilizer + dense organic manure. "Neemax" a bie-pesticides controlled the bean beetle effectively as compare to endosulfan a chemical pesticide.
