The levels of total phenol and tannin contents in leaves of chickpea Ascochyta blight resistant (E100Y) and susceptible (H208) cultivars were determined 2,4,6,8 and 10 days after challenge inoculation with two isolates of Ascochyta rabiei. Challenge inoculation with both the isolates at 2–10 days intervals resulted in increase in total phenol content in resistant cultivar while it was decreased in susceptible one. The tannin content was significantly higher in inoculated than in uninoculated resistant and susceptible cuItivars in case of both the isolates. However, increase was significant higher in susceptible cultivar after 10 days of inoculation as compared to resistant cultivar.
