Abstract

Genetic divergence for 10 characters was assessed in 49 strains of blackgram {Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper! using D statistics. The population was grouped into 6 clusters, of which cluster n had 13 genotypes and V had 10 genotypes. Analysis corroborated the absence of parraUelism between geographic origin and genetic diversity. The maximum inlTa cluster distance was exhibited by cluster IV and minimum by cluster VI. The inter cluster distance was maximum between I and IV. Plant height, number of clusters per plant number of pods per plant and seed yield per plant contributed maximum towards the total divergence.
