Genetics of green pod yield and its component characters in cowpea was studied by combining ability, graphical and numerical approaches of diallel cross analysis. Results on nature of gene action in three sets of genetic analyses showed more or less similar trend for most of the characters with slight over estimation of dominance component of genetic variance in numerical analysis. All the studied characters were found to be governed by nonadditive gene action except days to 50% flowering pod length, and seeds per pod. Hence, recurrent selection, diallel selective matting design or by parental mating may be advantageous for improvement of green pod Yield in cowpea.
