Abstract

Exbryonal axis explant of four genotypes of pea was cultured on MS medium supplemented with the combination of phytohormones (NAA + BAP). The callus cells were analysed for their chromosomal complement. The frequency of tetraploid (4n) and hexaploid (6n) cells were higher than triploid (3n) and pentaploid (5n). Fresh and dry weight of the callus showea linear response with the treatment for aU the genotype. Maximum shoot regeneration was achieved at 2.0 mg/1 BAP + 0.2 mg/1 NAA. whereas low concentration of hormones promoted root regeneration.
