Abstract

A study on the variation in chromosome number of the callus cells derived from immature embryo explant of Vigna mungo L. Hepper was undertaken. The chromosome number showed a wide range of variation, however the diploid cells were dominated in all the cultures. The frequency of tetraploid cells was higher than higher ploidy level, it increased with increase in the concentration of phytohormones. Plant regeneration was achieved after 30 days of inoculation from immature embryo explant cultured on MS media supplemented with 1 mg/1 2,4-D to 0.1 mg/kinetin.
