Yield, economics, nutrient uptake and consumptive use of water by summer greengram (Vigna radiata L.) as influenced by irrigation and phosphorus appucation

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the summer season of 2000 involving 4 levels of irrigation and 3 levels of phosphorus, on green gram cv Pusa Baisakhi. Increase in the levels of irrigation from 0 to 3 and levels of phosphorus 0 to 60 kg ha−1 increased the yield, nutrient uptake, gross and net return. Three irrigations (applied at branching, pre-flowering and pod development stages) recorded maximum seed yield, N, P and K uptake, gross and net returns followed by two irrigations each at branching and pre-flowering. Application of P @ 60 kg ha−1 resulted maximum seed yield, N, P and K uptake, gross and net return. The consumptive use of water was also increased with the increase in irrigation and phosphorus levels.
