Abstract

Twelve hybrids generated from a 4 x 4 diallel analysis involving CO 9, CO 12, CO 13 and COLT 22 as parents were utilized to estimate heterosis (over mid-parental value), inbreeding depression and inbreeding vigour for plant height, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant, pod length, pod width, number of seeds per pod, 100 seed weight and seed yield per plant. Wide range of heterosis, inbreeding depression and inbreeding vigour was observed among hybrids for the different characters studied. The implications of heterosis, inbreeding depression and inbreeding vigour on formulating the breeding strategy was discussed and the best cross combinations that can be advanced to subsequent generations have been identified.
