The experiments were conducted to study the effect of intercropping on various insect pests with differently maturing cultivars of pigeonpea in rainy seasons of 2000 and 200l. Among three cultivars of pigeon pea, the infestation of both the insect pests Clavigralla gibbosa and Mylabris spp. varied significantly. The sole crop of pigeonpea carried less infestation of C. gibbosa suggesting that pigeonpea with intercrops (sorghum and castor) harboured higher pest population. The same intercrops reduced the beetle population and short duration pigeonpea with castor and sorghum had less infestation of the pests.
