Abstract

Combining ability analysis involving twelve genetically diverse lines and four widely adapted testers was undertaken in urdbean for 100-seed weight and seed yield/plant in F1 generation. Among lines, HPBU-130 was good general combiners for 100-seed weight and seed yield. Testers PDU-1 and Palampur-93 revealed good general combiners for both the traits. The best specific cross combinations for 100-seed weight and seed yield/plant have been identified. GCA of the parents was not necessarily reliable of genetic usefulness of the crosses. Depending upon the nature and magnitude of combining ability effects in the parents and crosses, different breeding strategies for the isolation of superior recombinants have been suggested.
