Effect of trinol on seed germination and seedling growth of mungbean

Abstract

Seeds of mungbean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) cv. Pusa Baisakhi were treated with different concentrations (viz., 0.0, 0.125, 0.25, 0.50, 1.00, 1.50, 2.00 and 4.00 ppm) of Trinol for 5 hours and allowed to grow in slanting plate for 6 days, separately in the respective solution under normal laboratory conditions of bright diffuse light, 70–80% relative humidity (R.H.) and 25–30°C temperature ranges. Maximization of seed germination, seedling growth in terms of seedling length, fresh and dry weight were recorded at 0.50 ppm concentration. Similarly, chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b and total chlorophyll content of leaf were found to increase at this concentration. However, all these parameters decreased thereafter as the concentration of Trinol increased, indicating that 0.50 ppm concentration is the optimum dose for seed germination and seedling growth in mungbean.
