Abstract

In a line × tester experiment, twenty three black gram genotypes consisting of five lines with good nitrogen fixing capacity, three high yielding testers and their 15 hybrid combinations were evaluated, adopting a randomized block design with three replications. For nodule weight and nitrogen content at 50% flowering, the cross WBG13 × VBN1 and Pant U19 × T9 exhibited highest positive relative heterosis and standard heterosis respectively. In the case of grain yield per plant, highest positive relative heterosis, heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis were displayed by the cross WBG13 × AKU4.
