Abstract

Dry seeds of urdbean (Vigna mungo L. Hepper) varieties PU-19 and PU-35 were treated with 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 kR gamma rays doses. For chemical mutagenesis presoaked seeds of these two cultivars were treated with 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4% EMS solutions and 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 and 0.04% dES solutions separately. A number of various types of mutants for pod and maturity characteristics were induced in M2 generation. Many mutants showed significant improvement in yield and other yield components as compared to their parents.
