Rajas (Phule G-9425-9) chickpea variety is developed by pedigree selection method from a cross Phule G-91028 x Bheema under Pulses Improvement Project, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri (MS). It has semi-spreading growth habit with medium-bold seed. The variety is resistant to Fusarium wilt. In three (IVT, AVT-1 and AVT-2) All India Co-ordinated trials, on an average the genotype Phule G-9425-9 yielded 1808 kg/ha and consistently recorded 17.86, 19.34, 11.12 and 17.10 percent higher seed yield over the national checks H-82-2 (1534 kg/ha), PBG-1 (1515 kg/ha), BG-372 (1627 kg/ha) and RSG-963 (1544 kg/ha), respectively. The variety has been released and notified in 2007 under the name “Rajas” for late sown condition in NWPZ (Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttaranchal, New Delhi and Jammu).
