Identification and Isolation of High Yielding Mutants in Grasspea (Lathyrus Sativus L.)

Abstract

Seed treatment in grasspea (var, Dhenkanal local) with gamma-rays at 10, 40 and 70kR; EMS at 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6% NG at 0.01, 0.02 and 0.03% and combinations led to the isolation of some high yielding micro-mutants by stringent selection on macromutational M2 families followed by selection based on selection indices in M3. NG at 0.02–0.03% was found to be the most potent to induce high yielding micromutants, vig. a few of which harbour neurotoxin less than 0.1%.
