An experiment was conducted during the kharif season of 2003 at Allahabad (U.P.) to study the effect of zinc with and without organic and inorganic fertilizer on blackgram (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) cv. ‘I.P.U. - 94-1" (Uttara). There was eight treatment combinations with two levels of nitrogen (N0- 0 kg N/ha, N1-20kg N/ha), zinc (Z0- 0 kg Zn/ha, Z1-15kg Zn/ha) and farmyard manure (F0- 0 t FYM/ha, F1-10 t FYM/ha) each replicated three times. The experiment was laid out in 2X2X2 factorial randomized block design. The results of the study revealed that the application of nitrogen @ 20 kg/ha, zinc @ 15 kg/ha and farmyard manure @ 10 t/ha showed a significant increment in the yield, and yield attributes of blackgram over the control. The best treatment combination to be found was (N1Z1F1) i.e. 20 kg N/ha, 15 kg Zn/ha and 10 t FYM/ha with respect to all other treatment combinations.
