Based on Ph.D. thesis of first author submitted to the Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani
Field experiment was conducted during 2007–08 and 2008–09 on Typic Haplustert to study the effect of inorganic fertilizers and farm yard manure (FYM) applied in combination or alone on productivity and nutrient availability in soil grown with soybean – safflower cropping system. Results showed significantly highest grain yield of soybean (28.4 q ha−1) and safflower (16.3 q ha−1) in the treatment receiving 150% NPK and it was at par with 100% NPK+ FYM. There was overall increase in the soil bacteria, actinomycetes and fungal population in treatment receiving FYM @ 10 Mg ha1 alone and decreased in treatment receiving 150% NPK. Balanced sheet of available N, P and K after harvest of 2nd cycle showed maximum buildup of soil nutrients in treatment 100% NPK + FYM @ 10 Mg ha−1 fallowed by 150% NPK.
