Abstract

Twenty-eight F1 hybrids derived from eight diverse bottle gourd genotypes were evaluated in randomised block design with three replications during kharif 2003–04 to study the heterosis over better parents and check hybrid INDAM 204. The hybrid Pusa Naveen x NDBG 104, Pusa Naveen x UL-6 and Pusa Naveen x NDBG 140 were found to be the most promising and manifested heterobeltiosis of 84.95%, 76.02% and 51.26% and standard heterosis of 37.33%, 20.16% and 31.34%, respectively, for fruit yield per plant. Therefore, these three hybrids were identified for evaluation at multi-location and commercial exploitation.
