As always, we have an array of articles and reviews. Let us not forget COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, which is constantly evolving. “The latest variant of concern (VOC) is Omicron (PANGO lineage B.1.1). Omicron has branched into several highly transmissible and immune-evasive subvariants through mutations and recombination. One subvariant, XBB.1.5, was first observed in New York, USA during October 2022. Finally, this review examines the impact of XBB.1.5 on the recently updated BA.4/5 bivalent booster vaccine program” (Yuan-Yeu Yau et al., this volume). “Further research is needed to find the final picture as to precisely how bicarbonate functions on the electron donor side of Photosystem II” (Stemler and Castelfranco, this volume). Climate change is a big contributor to health problems globally besides creating “climate burning” as coined by UN Secretary General in his latest warning and highest temperatures recorded in different parts of the world during the month of July 2023. Long warm and dry summers with high insect populations are prerequisites for the spontaneous outbreak of diseases including plant diseases (Misra, this volume). (“Although the NGT Act and its processes have many limitations, they can still be seen as a step in the right direction for environmental justice in India” (Devi and Gurjar this volume). The EcoSDG Summit 2023 was a dynamic and enlightening gathering that brought together sustainability experts and enthusiasts. Agarwal et al. (2023) highlights the messages from conference “A One Day National Conference on EcoSDG Summit: Navigating a Greener Future through Water and Waste Management”, which was organized by Dr. B. Lal Institute of Biotechnology, Jaipur in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences, India, Rajasthan Chapter on World Environment Day, 5th June 2023, in their paper. The event was held at Dr. B. Lal Institute of Biotechnology in Jaipur, India. “The participants emphasized the incorporation of hydrology principles at the core of water sector policies, programs, and projects. They stressed the importance of combining decentralized and nature-based solutions with built water infrastructure to conserve aquatic ecosystems, manage water, wastewater, and stormwater, mitigate floods, drought-proof, and involve communities in water management” (Agarwal et al. 2023).</p><p>The International Journal of Life Sciences (IJLS) publishes research in all disciplines of Life Sciences, including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) for life sciences; EcoSystem Management; Remote Sensing and Environmental Engineering; Forestry; Agriculture; Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology; Genetics; Photosynthesis; Green Energy; Microbiology; Environmental Biology; Taxonomy; and Applied Biology. Submission of papers in both basic and applied sciences, including current topics in environment, genomics, biotechnology, and medicinal ethnobiology are encouraged.</p><p>I acknowledge the support of our editorial board for bringing out this issue in time and look forward to your continued cooperation in future.
