Abstract

The hair morphology of two Indian foxes namely, Vulpes vulpes and Vulpes bengalensis was examined using the optical light microscope. The cuticular characteristics and shape of the cross-section of hair varied between the two species studied, but the medullary characteristics of hair were similar between the species. The high-resolution photo-micrographs and key characteristics of hair were presented here can be used as an appropriate reference for species identification.
