Women entrepreneurs in decision making process: An empowerment through cooperative sector

Position of women no matter from what viewpoint one considers it - social, economic, cultural or political-leaves much to be desired, especially in view of those who believe in fundamental equality of all individuals and their freedom as an economic unit. Women have a strong potential role in many aspects of economic development. Women participation in income and output earning is extremely low. In this paper, it is attempted to increase women entrepreneurship through cooperative sector. Number of women's cooperatives is less than men's cooperatives. However, the increase in active women participation in cooperatives has shown decrease in men's active participation. The women participation through cooperative sector has also shown increase in profitability and viability of their entrepreneurs. Egalitarian and feminine decision-making power is also observed more among women entrepreneurs in cooperative sectors. This reveals the significance of women empowerment through cooperatives. In the present socio-economic set up, entrepreneurship of women requires much more than mere training in a particular vocation or trade.
