Organizations constantly engage in actions aimed at increased access to resources and effective utilization of the available resources to compete in the changing environment. This necessitates assessment of resources utilization and organizational performance efficiency periodically to ensure achievement of goals. A number of tools and processes are available for assessing organizational performance, among which ‘capacity building’ has acquired particular significance among ‘non-profit organizations’ in past two decades. In this paper it is attempted to review scope of applying capacity building process for recruitment and selection as HR activity in organizations. This paper reports the results of a study on capacity building carried out on 36 middle level executives of a medium size organization engaged in manufacture of automobile components in Coimbatore. In this study, the capacity was measured by calculating raw, standardized and scaled capacity and consensus scores. ‘Capacity mapping’ was done by plotting the ‘scaled scores’ on the GRID to identify the ‘lack areas’. ‘Capacity building’ was done for the ‘lack areas’ by devising strategies to move the low capacity/low consensus areas to the high capacity/high consensus quadrant.
