This paper focuses on teaching of ‘HR organizational structure’ which is a complex activity and a difficult task to be covered through a ‘live project’. This paper relates to teaching ‘HR organizational structure’ to UG and PG students at Asian School of Business Management, a well known B-School in India, with a view to facilitate learning about the organization, its structure and knowing about existing jobs in the industry, to enable them to perform more efficiently when they join industry. Teaching ‘HR organizational structure’ in class room without a live case is difficult as students often do not have desired knowledge of the organization. Organizations can often be perceived as people management systems, involving simple hierarchies on traditional lines to complex hierarchical networks. Human resource managers can encourage organizations to adopt strategies for their structures which foster both cost-effectiveness and employee commitment. Organizational structures can be divided into several types such as functional, divisional, or matrix type. In order to meet any contingency planning some built-in flexibility is introduced in organizational structure. In this teaching case a live project was given to students to make them learn, improve, and assimilate ideas necessary for organizational learning and planning which was followed by assessing students perception about its effectivness.
