This paper examines the key success factors of franchisors in the retailing industry by focusing on the impact of 10 organizational variables on the ‘success’ of the franchising firm. Success is measured in terms of both size and growth simultaneously. The significant variables show that the time it takes the firm to franchise is negatively related to its success, while the internationalization, the proportion of franchising, the number of company-owned units and the age of the franchisor are positively related to its level success. Franchisors in the retailing sector can benefit from this study by concentrating on creating the organizational conditions that form the key success factors for a retail franchisor.
