Abstract

The study examined the way the Nigerian press reported women empowerment issues in the country. It employed the content analysis method of scientific inquiry. Two newspapers-The Punch and The Nation were analysed to determine the extent of coverage and direction/slant of news presentation by the two dailies. The results of the study showed that the Nigerian press, especially the two papers studied devoted resources and space to the extensive coverage of women empowerment issues, thereby playing a critical role in mainstreaming gender issues.
