A study on role of online communities of practice in improving the knowledge management process

Abstract

Workforce attributes are changing very rapidly. We have to deal with workforce diversities such as geographicllocation, generation/age group and cultural dimension. There are more and more millennials are part of the workforce who is located across the globe and working with virtual teams. Complexity in the business environment and competitions drives the needfor continuous upgrade oftheir knowledge and skills. Legacy knowledge management processes and systems are no more supporting the current needs ofworkforce. This demands a change in the current process ofmanaging knowledge in the workplace. This paper studies the online communities ofpractice provided by ESNs in the workplace and their role in improving the knowledge management process.
