Social media negatively impacts women’s mental health by fostering social comparison, promoting unrealistic beauty standards, and increasing risks of anxiety, depression and body dissatisfaction. Excessive use can lead to isolation, stress, poor sleep, and decreased self-esteem, though some platforms also offer benefits like community and self-expression.
For this the exploratory research design aims to produce an understanding of the relationship between social media usage and mental health of women. The study is based on primary data collected from the respondents. Structured questionnaire was employed as the major tool for primary data, supplemented by an extensive review of literature. Simple random sampling technique was used, ensuring equal chances of selection for each participant. A total of 75 respondents were selected to form the sample for the study.
The results show that social media is mandatory in modern life, but it is important to use it mindfully and in a balanced way. Strengthening regulations, encouraging digital literacy, and Promoting healthy habits can help safeguard mental health, especially for women who are more exposed to its adverse effects.
The study proposes to assess the impact of social media on mental health of women and to find out the relationship between social media use and mental health.
