This study examines the portrayal of patriotism in selected Malayalam Army-themed films directed by Major Ravi, focusing on Keerthichakra (2006), Kurukshetra (2008), Kandahar (2010), and 1971: Beyond Borders (2017). Using qualitative content analysis framed by Framing Theory, the research explores symbolic, verbal, and musical representations of patriotism. Specielements analyzed include national symbols such as the flag, medals, and tombs; dialogues referencing national identity through expressions like “Jai Hind” and “Hindustan”; and patriotic songs including the national anthem. The analysis variations in intensity across the films, with Kurukshetra ranking highest in patriotic content.
This study employs qualitative content analysis guided by Framing Theory to examine the portrayal of patriotism in selected Malayalam Army-themed films directed by Major Ravi. The methodology was chosen to enable systematic identition of recurring symbols, dialogues, and narrative structures that represent patriotic sentiment.
The study highlights how Major Ravi's military background contributes to authentic depictions of soldierly life and sacrifice. Findings suggest that his lms reinforce national identity while also raising questions about narrative repetition.
The research contributes to the study of Indian cinema by offering insights into how patriotism is framed in regional films, with implications for both cultural theory and future audience-based research.
