Abstract

Mobiles today have become a necessity from luxury. These mobiles were used initially for the purpose of communication. But today the mobiles are not only used for communication but also have a variety of features. From downloading pictures to ring tones, Mp3, songs, cricket scores, news headlines, weather, banking, GRE vocabulary, video and multimedia content etc have all become a part of mobile users. The aim of the research is to learn the mobile communication and its social impact in Chennai metro. The researcher has adopted survey methodology and in-depth analysis. The analysis reveals that the adoption of 3G mobiles in Chennai is increasing and mobile users are welcoming it. Though the private service providers are not launched 3G services yet, the 2.5G with CDMA, GSM facilities are familiar among mobile users.
