Media has been in the public eye for long. Its every move has been scrutinised by media critics and the public at large. But what sparked off the debate in a big way was the Mumbai blasts on November 26, 2008, Not only did media, especially electronic media, do a stupendous job of bringing alive each moment of the tragic event but it also exposed some chinks in its own armour, forcing even the National Broadcasting Association to issue guidelines to electronic media about its coverage of conflict situations like Mumbai. This empirical study is an endeavour to comprehend the menace of terrorism and the responsibilities of media in dealing with them. Role of media, therefore, increases manifold. A survey was conducted in the city of Jalandhar to evaluate the perceptions of the people regarding the role of media in the context of Mumbai blasts.
