Successful communication between counsellor and client is the modus operandi of effective counselling. The present study attempts to investigate the impact of individual counselling on academic achievement of student. 36 adolescents of Bhubaneswar from KIIT International School were randomly sampled for the study. Out of 36 students, individual counselling had been provided to 21 students only. Cognitive behaviour therapy was used in individual counselling session for reducing academic stress and anxiety. 21 students in the experimental group improved their academic performance after counselling when compared with the 15 students in the control group who did not turned up for counselling session. T-test was applied to know the mean difference between experimental and control group. Results revealed that there exists a significant difference between pre test and pos test score for experimental group with regard to academic achievement. The findings have been explained in the light of contemporary conceptualization.
