This study attempts to give a retrospective view of the status of Dalits in Indian media. The Dalits face exclusion in terms of social, economical and cultural perspectives. The collected literature confirmed the discrimination of the Dalits in each and every sphere of social life. The existing literature gave adequate evidence for under representation of the Dalits in the Indian media. The observers on the media coverage of Dalits argue that minimum space is devoted for the issues related to the Dalits. The collected literature revealed that the Dalits are under represented in terms of news coverage. It also showed that Dalits are misrepresented in the name of stereotyping. The studies discovered that the Dalits are excluded from the main stream media newsrooms. Although historically Dalits face exclusion from Indian media, Dalits too have a rich media history.
