This study has been designed to analyse themes in Khushwant Singh's articles and columns written over a period of last five decades as well as the manner of their presentation. The study is expository, analytical and interpretative. Researcher has taken a random sample of Khushwant Singh's 450 articles and columns out of the universe of 1865 write-ups produced during the period. On the one hand, the researcher has scrutinised the articles and columns at individual level, on the other hand she has attempted the comparative analysis of the themes of his writings published during different decades. The study reveals that there is a huge gap between the perception and identity of Khushwant Singh as a journalist. The study establishes the fact that howsoever skewed the popular perception about Khushwant Singh may be, the fact of the matter is that Khushwant Singh has been keenly pre-occupied with themes of significance for human relations and social well-being and progress. The study reveals that his style is celebratory and post-modernist at once. In fact, one of the hallmarks of post-modernist writing is that it celebrates the fragmentary and the ‘partial’.
