“Change life!” “Change society!” These percepts mean nothing without the production of an appropriate space…new social relationships call for a new space, and vice versa. ∼ H. Lefebvre. The facets of communication saw a new boom with the upsurge of the new concept of ‘social media’. The substantial increase in the graph of popularity of electronic services users has augmented the introduction of new social networking websites such as MySpace, Facebook, Google's Buzz and Twitter in the market. The sites provide their users a platform to create their own virtual world wherein they share personal information, updates, network with their friends and followers. The present piece is an attempt to discover the scope and nature of ‘social media’ under the shadow of legal regulations framed for the same. The author analyzes the judgments by courts of UK, USA and India to introspect upon the level of protection of rights and sense of security available to the users of Social Media. The paper will showcase the subtle guidelines and directions by the authorities of the ‘global village’ for unrestricted enjoyment social media networking.
