Interrogating interpersonal communication theories in the Indian sociological context

Abstract

In today’s scenario the communication network through numerous sources like social networking on Internet and mobile are most effective and spontaneous means of communication with easy access for people worldwide. These means of communication however, lack in sharing the expressions, impressions and emotions. The interpersonal communication though, narrow and limited in its geographic popularity but is most applicable means that helps us express our feelings, ideas, and thoughts and help us to share them with the people around us. Communication can occur with or without words and through a number of communication media. Various experts have proposed theories to explain the interpersonal communication. Some prominent theories have been selected for assessment, interpretation and a conclusion is drawn for their effective applicability in Indian families in today’s scenario.
