A Framework to Enhance Employee-Manager Relationship in South African Municipalities-The Case of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Abstract

The life of a business is its employees. Thus businesses wishing to compete globally must understand the human side of their organization and business processes. Therefore ensuring effective employee-manager relationship in organizations is more important. The art of developing and keeping successful relationships is paramount to success in the business world. The present paper is an attempt to develop a framework to enhance manager-employee relationship at the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. This study has used five variables (respect, transparency, involvement, communication and recognition) to examine employee-manager relationship at Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. After conducting and analyzing the content of 71 questionnaires the study concludes that there was a significant level of disrespect, lack of transparency, miscommunication, lack of recognition, and minimal employee involvement in the relationship between employees and managers at the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
